At just 32 years of age, saxophonist and vocalist Ben Jones has already played and recorded with some of Australia's and Europe's finest musicians including; Tom Baker, Don Burrows, Janet Seidel and James Morrison. He has performed at most major Jazz festivals internationally and locally, including Manly,Thredbo, Wangaratta, Wagga, Noosa, Ascona, Breda and has performed for a record crowd of 90,000 people at “Jazz in the Domain”. Ben’s debut solo album “It Might As Well Be Swing” was in the Top 10 Jazz Charts for two years and has been met with great critical acclaim. His sequential CDs also in the Top 10. His saxophone sound is reminiscent of the big-toned 1930’s & 40’s tenor players, being equally at home playing ballads, up-tempo swing, driving blues, or “hot” New Orleans styles. His vocal style is also growing into a unique mix of swing & “crooning”, taking heed of the masters; Sinatra, Bennett, Darin & Torme. Presently, Ben's band comprises of some of Sydney’s finest young musicians following the respected tradition, while bringing a fresh and exciting approach to jazz. The band is well suited to any performance situation from jazz concerts to corporate functions and weddings, providing a professional and well presented show that can be tailored to the specific needs of the event. |
